With the declaration of the Republic, Chambers of Commerce in the pilot regions were founded on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's instructions the founder of the young Republic of Turkey preparing to the Industrial Revolution. At that time, these pilot regions were in Malatya and leading traders were persuaded to become officials of the Chamber. By 1928, with the alphabet revolution, Chamber registrations began to be rearranged and merchants started to work on the chamber again. Since the concept of the industry was not well known in the period, the function of the room was also a little different. For example, the bail of the Chamber was of great importance in borrowing money. In 1938, a small room at the entrance of the Municipality, which was the first reinforced concrete building of Malatya was dedicated to the Chamber. Then, the transition was made to a two-story building behind the Municipality. Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which is trying to serve Malatya with its 7 thousand members today, is happy to continue its adventure successfully after 77 years with 30 members. The fact that Malatya was one of the leading locations for the establishment of the Chamber of Commerce on Mustafa Kemal Ataturk's instructions, the founder of the young Republic of Turkey was welcomed by people. The tradesmen of Malatya, who knew the experience of the Ahi yan Kulliye from the Ottoman Empire and deeply engraved the Ahi culture in their brain, embraced this new formation and the tradesmen in the city started to register one by one. By 1929, Mehmet Faik Efendi, one of the well-known merchants of Malatya, Atmalızades, became the first president of the chamber. However, he was trying to fulfill this duty in his workplaces for a while due to the lack of space. The 30 members recruited in the first place increased to 46 after a while, and then these numbers were growing reaching thousands. Atmalızade Mehmet Faik Efendi continued this task for only three years and then transferred it to Şevket Özpazarbaşı, one of the well-known notables of Malatya, Pazarcıbaşılar. In 1938, among the memories of Abdulhadi Çekirdek who was 12 years old, the following lines about the Chamber of Commerce were noted;

"So in 1938 I was only 12 years old, we went to the railway at 37 and greeted Atatürk, then we walked to the city. The Chamber of Commerce was in the small room to the right of the entrance door of the Municipality at that time. Malatya's first reinforced concrete building was the Municipality. At that time, the Government House was in the Saray District. The head of the Chamber of Commerce was Pazarbaşı and then Taşangil. Taşangil was a powerful man and a good tradesman. There were really good merchants in Malatya at that time. For example, Turfandagiller, Bitlisler, and Mehmet Kığılı are among the unforgettable merchants of Malatya. Özpazarbaşı was engaged in shoemaking. In his remaining time, he would try to follow the activities related to the Chamber closely. There were a lot of tradesmen, I know that there were many people registered in the chamber in the merchant market, the Ottoman bank was in the inn at that time. In 1935, the Germans came to Malatya and decided to build a big road with İnönü's instructions. They were going to build a 60-meter-wide road from the station to the end, but Malatya did not revolt. Later they built a 10-15 meter road. I guess now you can understand better what men mean. There were Çuhadars. The broadcaster was called the apricot king. At that time, the apricots were very valuable. Again, I guess if it was 1932, they would say I wouldn't remember when I was a child. Electricity Company was established at today's Tecde's Nursery site. Traders became partners in the company. They were saying that the room had gathered quite a partner at that time."

Years have passed since that day. Since then, 13 dear presidents have served Malatya. Undoubtedly, they all made a significant contribution to the achievement of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Today, Malatya Chamber of Commerce and Industry is proud of being at the same age as our republic, with its thousands of members, its Industrial Plants, and its growing influence.
