Periodic Inspection Procedures for Out-of-Service Weighing Instruments

Due to the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, 2023, which resulted in the extensive destruction of workplaces or their remaining in reserve areas, tradespeople have temporarily continued their operations in containers and at different addresses. During this process, periodic inspections of measuring and weighing instruments were neglected. The current situation may subject tradespeople operating under difficult conditions to serious administrative penalties and additional grievances. Therefore, our Chamber has requested that, as a one-time measure, measuring and weighing instruments with expired periodic inspections be allowed to undergo inspections without administrative penalties. It has also been communicated that weighing instruments unused to date due to the effects of the earthquake should be evaluated differently.

Following the review by the General Directorate of Metrology and Industrial Products, it has been announced that weighing instruments whose last periodic inspection was conducted in 2021 (those inspected before 2021 cannot be evaluated within this scope) and were not used in commercial activities due to post-earthquake conditions can undergo inspections without administrative penalties within the 2026 periodic inspection period, pursuant to Article 15, Paragraph 1(c) of Law No. 3516 on Measures and Calibration, referenced in the letter dated February 20, 2026, numbered 755350.
